A metal detector scans Prisoners and carried items (such as Kitchen or Shop supply crates) for metallic Contraband items like most weapons and tools. If the detector flags a prisoner or container for contraband, a Guard or Dog Handler in range will be ordered to search the prisoner/container. The guard will automatically confiscate the contraband and put the prisoner in Lockdown (or whatever consequence is defined by Policy).

Metal Detectors should be placed along high traffic areas and other contraband sources - like at the entrances of a Workshop or a Canteen, and Deliveries. The orientation of the detector does not matter, nor does the direction that the prisoners are travelling in. So as long as a prisoner passes through the detector, they will be scanned. Take notice that prisoners will try to avoid metal detectors by taking other available paths.

If prisoners know they have to pass through a metal detector then they are less likely to steal an item. Additionally, Metal Detectors will deactivate for 3 seconds after detecting something. They also incorrectly detect something a small percentage of the time, resulting in unnecessary searches.

Metal Detectors slow down anyone who is passing through them.
