Chad (talk) 15:34, 28 September 2012 (UTC): We should come up with design conventions. I don't like the actual dark info boxes because they jump out of the page, because they don't fit the page design.

Yeah. The current template are extremely ugly and cumbersome. The actual design is good, but the placement/color scheme is unreadable. Askiba (talk) 16:05, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Chad (talk) 16:09, 28 September 2012 (UTC): We've already a discussion about that at the Template_talk:Room_infobox page.

Chad (talk) 16:23, 28 September 2012 (UTC): Okay, what kind of color sheme should we use now? I would prefer the light version as it is at the moment, because its friedly and good readable. I could imagin, that a few small wiki-wide color chnages (links could be orange for example), but thats not in out hands :)

I second light version! Askiba (talk) 20:41, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Scottystreet (talk) 08:11, 29 September 2012 (UTC) : So are we committing to a light colour scheme? Because I really hate the Template:Material infobox and the Template:Object infobox using the dark scheme. It's just not right in a Wiki.

Yes, yes. We should get to changing Material infobox right away. Askiba (talk) 17:16, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

I've added a few templates, and tweaked others. Specifically, Template:Warning and Template:Upcoming Features. Hope that's OK! Kirrus (talk) 19:19, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Yeah good work. I think we've carved out a good base for the wiki now :)

--Chad (talk) 19:23, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Just added Templates page, to keep track of all our templates :) Kirrus (talk) 19:57, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

We should come up with some conventions early to save having to do a massive re-work/editing task later on.

I agree. I'm going to get to work on something rudimentary. Askiba (talk) 17:15, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

I've started with the rooms, changed the infobox, so it contains all mayor informations. I'll add tips, bugs, trivia and a short description to all in the next days. I'll rework the rooms as well. Chad (talk) 09:05, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Active Editors

I thought maybe it might be nice for all of the active editors of the Wiki to sign off here, and introduce themselves. That way, we know who we're arguing with when we don't like the style of a page!! It could potentially make it easier for us to create some more solid conventions for this Wiki.

Scottystreet - I heard about IV at the release of Multiwinia on Steam, and have loved their games since! I enjoy picking apart the workings of the game.

Chad - I'm biotechnology a student from Germany, I love indie games and I'm following this game for a long while now.

Askiba - I'm a liberal arts student from Chicago. I've been a big fan of IV's games, the first one I ever played seriously was Defcon. Used to have some mad parties with it at the center. This is the first wiki I've ever poured any work into.

simon_w - I'm a maths and compsci student from New Zealand. I've been playing IV games since just after the release of Uplink for mac. I have been excited by the development of Prison Architect I've seen on Twitter and can't wait to help polish this game off.

Quasi - I love games and I love wiki software. Though I'll usually figure things out after someone else did, I still like hanging around and making sure everything's getting along fine. Any edits I do on articles itself will probably be to correct some grammar or lay-out. Also, I'm from Belgium.

A__Gun - Been following IV from the beginning and love all their games. I've studied Computer Science and dabbled with modding granting me a good understanding of the workings of a game. First time editing a wiki at all significantly so picking it up as I go along.

Kirrus - I have also been following IV from the beginning. I am a (minor) grammar nut, and so I'll probably tweak page text incessantly till it flows right. Feel free to undo anything I do if you hate it ;)

grimvirus - I'm an IT Consultant in Switzerland, loved IV from the beginning and am enjoying PA. Total noob to editting Wikis. Already updated the Grants MOD ;)

Nettle Soup - I'm a lazy sod with too much time on her hands. Been watching out for this game since it was announced and I think it's going to be awesome once it's more finished! Mostly going to be editing spelling/grammar mistakes.

Khane - I'm 16 and I have trouble with spelling so I try and Google most things before I post but Ive been editing wikis for a while now but I've never felt that I could help because most of the content was already there, but here I can see the changes and see the impact. I also like designing and building webpages.

Silentfood - I'm a programmer from England who's very passionate about game development, and infrastructures of networks. I've enjoyed this game for hours straight, and even recommended it to a very big forum. I first heard about PA from Facepunch, and it really gives me the old feelings of SimCity2000 back in the day. My other alias is 0xFACEFEED.

Kingorgg - I'm Kingorgg, I'm from England and I have been a fan of IV since uplink.

XphnX - I'm a programmerish who also does things on wikipedia, sometimes. (Not really.) Own all the IV games (yes, multiwinia too!) and love every one of them. I would play more PA, but there is no linux build ;(. I have a tumblr masquerading as a website. I implemented userboxes, because I could.

Nuker1991 - I'm a programmer of age 21 and i have played PA since i found it on the internet, i love to contibrute to the wiki in my spare time. i can sometimes be a perfectionist so i will mostly check/update pages and update images.

Eddy-Fredd - Since Uplink I'm a fan of IV, so i came to PA, which is great! I'm from Germany and you'll find me most times correcting some typos and adding stuff to existing pages.

samtarling - I've been a massive fan of IV since DEFCON (I even went back and brought Darwnia). I'm from England and I am an avid Wikipedian (so you can expect lots of OCD minor edits!) - Feel free to complain if I try to go against the grain here :)

Namj13 - Hello, I found out about IV last year, when looking up DEFCON for a project. I quickly became interested in their other games, mainly PA. I also moderate on the Galaxy on Fire Wiki.

ysoliman - I'm an avid geek from the UK, a long time Uplink fan and a student. I contribute to the PA wiki in my spare time and have experience in using wiki platforms and normally update articles to add more detail or to correct mistakes.

Wolfe - I recently found Prison Architect through YouTube. Right when I saw it, I purchased the game and started reading the Wiki. Being a MediaWiki editor already, I figured why not contribute to PA's wiki!

Linoe - Hello. I am a HTX student from Denmark. This is my first time contributing to a Wiki, but I will do my best. My strength lies in the aesthetic, as the Danish and English grammar rules are quite different, so please correct me if I am wrong. I love learning ;)

Just a small question, is it possible to replace a uploaded file (trying to upload a new version of the grants mod, but just want to replace the current file as its still version 1.1) --Grimvirus (talk) 20:16, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Nope, that's not possible. You can rename the old file to something else and upload the new file to that name, though. --Quasi (talk) 22:14, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Surely we should be able to update files - does the permission just need changing or is it actually not possible? --Agun (talk) 22:45, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Permissions, I presume. --Tim ~ Quasi (TALK) 22:58, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Images for Infoboxes

Now that we have these neat infoboxes for nearly everything, I wonder what type of image we should use.

At the moment we have two types:

  • Screenshots
  • Images from the spritesfile

I think both types have their advantages and disadvatages, but we should decide which type of image we should use, just to get an uniform look.

--Chad (talk) 06:49, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
With the images distributed with the game, do we actually have permission to include them in the wiki? Otherwise, unless someone from IV uploads them, they are breaching copyright. We do need to watch out for that. simon_w (talk) 07:17, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

I don't think thats a problem, because its the official wiki, so we actually wouldn't break any copyright rights.

In my opinion we should use screenshots.

  • It shows the Item how it actually looks like when build
  • Screenshots can be used multiple times for several pages
--Chad (talk) 08:02, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

I've been uploading the sprites for the objects and using them in the infobox. I believe we should have the sprites in the infobox and a screenshot of them in game somewhere on the wiki page, under uses or something. --Kingorgg (talk) 15:50, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Screenshots should end up in a gallery, unless there's a paragraph about it in the text itself. (e.g. screenshots of different cell layouts <-> screenshot of a cell with a homesick prisoner, with a paragraph explaining what this means) --Tim ~ Quasi (TALK) 16:33, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

So we should make sure a few things if we juse the sprites:

  • force the size of the sprite to be not wider than 200px 8that it fits right into the box)
  • not only use a part of the object, for example the Serving Table uses two overlaying sprites, the table itself and a "glass roof"
  • only use images that are actually used in the game, like in Light, where lightbulbs are shown which aren't used at the moment
--Chad (talk) 17:14, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Wiki issus

I've got an email from Mark, regarding the missing common.css/js files, language support and overwritable images.

He'll take a look on these things but they are very busy at the moment.

Only that you all know whats going on.

--Chad (talk) 17:53, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

We probably didn't have to, but I added a template for userboxes to spice up your userpage. I also made a userbox for java programmers, and more are coming. XphnX (talk) 15:55, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

What should these boxes do and why do we need more userboxes for javaprogrammers and stuff? I don't see the benefit of that.

--Chad (talk) 16:51, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Userboxes are a great way of showing who you are and what you do without requiring people to read a text. On Wikipedia this is commonly used for languages ( and I think it'd be quite cool to have something similar over here. That way we know who's able to communicate in which language, which is especially helpful for non-English users. --Tim ~ Quasi (TALK) 19:00, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Now I see what they do on wikipedia, but what should they do here? Is it neccessary to have user boxes that indicates that someone is a java programmer? this could end up with many things which arent really used. I would need a userbox for father, chef, student, lover php programmer, html coder, (hobby)graphics designer... etc... as I said... I don't see the benefits here, wikipedia is another thing. But feel free to create them, maybe I'll see the benefits when they are in use :D

--Chad (talk) 19:14, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the (partial) stamp of approval, I'll work on more. 20:20, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Wiki in other languages

Hey there wiki contributors!

Nice to see that the wiki gets a new translation (french)! I've thought about a few things we should keep in mind when we create new pages:

  • it's not neccessary to use a prefix (fr: de: es: etc) for the pages.
  • Please add the language links to the bottom of the page (like de:Hauptseite, I'll say more about that later)
  • If the object has the same name in your language as in an other language, I've two suggestions:
    • Rename the page to an other name fitting the objects name (like emprisonnement instead of prison)
    • Add your language in bracets behind the name (like prison (francais) or prison (french))
  • Try not to translate the english text like a translator does. I've seen some very wired translations so far. Try to use your own words.
  • If you need help with the templates we use for several pages, feel free to contact me (Chad), I'll try to help with them!
--Chad (talk) 10:06, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Language links

I've seen there were some irritations regarding the language links if added to the Main Page a while ago. Here is how it should work:

If the wiki has set up interwiki links to other languages, the added language link (like de:Hauptseite) will not be shown in the article, instead there will be a link in the left sidebar that says "in other languages". As there is no language support yet, the links don't do anything. I'm in contact with Mark to get language support working, so please let the links as they are and when language support comes, the will magically disappear ;)

I hope I could answer some questions and irritations, if there are any unclear things, feel free to contact me :)

Use of Talk:Main Page as a forum

I've noticed a couple of people have started using the Main Page's talk page as an area to ask questions. Although we don't want to dissuade people from getting involved with the community, there are better places for questions to be asked and answered (the forum[1] for example) samtarling (talk) 12:42, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Nicer edit toolbar and gadgets please?

Would it be possible to get the Gadgets extension (so we can use things like HotCat) and maybe the WikiEditor extension enabled as well - pretty please? :) --Aequalitas (talk) 05:35, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

  • I've actually been wanting WikiEditor on PA's wiki myself. It makes editing not only easier but look better aswell. -Wolfe (talk) 23:40, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Wiki in Other Languages Revisited: Page Titling

Currently, there are five types of page title scheme:

  1. Page for English(Original) articles, e.g. Foundation
  2. Page/lang for articles in other languages, e.g. Main Page/de
  3. Page (Language), e.g. Icon (Deutsch)
  4. LocalizedPage, e.g. Gefängnis
  5. lang:LocalizedPage, e.g. Ko:대문???

Since the game does not support i18n yet, there are far large amount of articles in type 1. But for pages in other languages, there seems a need for a unified page titling rule.

Type 2 is believed to be the most intuitive way of titling localized pages. It also can borrow convenience from MediaWiki's own Special:Translate extension. (Though the extension is used on Main Page for German, I don't know how to apply other pages to the extension.)

Type 3 is also intuitive, but requires few more keystrokes then type 2. Surely, Sth/zh-Hans is much shorter than Sth (Simplified Chinese), isn't it?

Type 4 is clear to those who are mother tongue in that language, but is not understandable to other readers. Also, to some people it would annoy a hell because of font problems or something.

Type 5 should not be used; it can disrupt interwiki system in future.

My proposal is to use type 2 with a redirection page of type 4, e.g. Gefängnis redirects to Prison/de.

How do you fellow architects think upon this? -- Ardie Fox (talk) 05:35, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Template for bug tracker

Hi! I'm co-founder of Prison Wiki Poland. We just started - if someone is a Pole, I invite you to help :)

I created a template for lists of bugs which is very helpful. For example, {{Bug|0004559|Gameplay|Prisoners don't starve to death}} make something like that:

0004559: [Gameplay] Prisoners don't starve to death

What do you think about it? It makes checking bugs (is) easier.

Problem with translate word Suppression

Hi, I don't know which word in my language (Polish) is properly for Suppression in this case. Can you help me?

Google Translate give me this translations:

tłumienie - damping, suppression, absorption

stłumienie - suppression

likwidacja - liquidation, eradication, suppression, abolishment, extirpation, clearing

ukracanie - suppression

przykrócenie - check, suppression

poskramianie - taming, restraint, suppression

poskromienie - repression, suppression, restraint

powstrzymanie - restraint, repression, check, hindrance, suppression

I bold most likely translations.

Can you get me some synonyms? Thanks! Lewandowski (talk) 20:36, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
